This is my second favourite question. After the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything; which is yet to be figured out.
And it shocks me that many people don't know about Doctor Who, and it pains me that quite a few of those who do know about it are not interested in it. I am not saying it is the best show ever made.
But it IS the best show ever made.
This show is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster of TV shows. Here is a brief and simple synopsis of the show: It is about an immortal-ish humanoid alien in possession of a time-travelling spaceship, which is bigger on the inside, who helps out people and entities in distress and has a soft spot for the human race.
This simple and brief synopsis is, however, utterly and significantly incomplete. The show is so much more than that. Simple words cannot really convey the comprehensive awesomeness of this show. I will make an attempt nonetheless. Not just because I love the show, but because I believe everyone should experience the awesomeness that is Doctor Who.
This show is ridiculous. It is serious. It is nonsensical. It is logical. It is emotional. It is human. It is compassionate. It is fair. It is ethical. It is mind-boggling. It is crazy. It's a non-self-help guide yet it is a guide to being a better person.

Be prepared for unadulterated nerdgasms from the multifarious time paradoxes, sub-sub-sub plots, easter eggs, and the crazy-ass and, possibly, the most creative and imaginative writing in contemporary times.
No story in Doctor Who really ends in the same episode or even in the same season. A simple sub-plot will have connections and, sometimes, far-reaching implications a few episodes or a few seasons later. Well, sometimes more than a few seasons later. And it's fun.

| It will only take you (not the first) 4 seasons to know what this means. |
The show is so good, so emotional, so real sometimes that you wish the writers would just give you fake, reassuring, all's-well-with-the-world endings. But they don't. And you'll love, hate, and respect them for that. The experience of watching Doctor Who is exciting, amazing, confounding, and delightful! To name a few more adjectives among innumerable others.
I cannot think of any other show like this. None whatsoever. Because no other such show exists. How can you still want to not get involved in the fascinating brilliant madness that is Doctor Who?
So, listen to the doctors. Give the show a try. And be a little patient. I'll always be available later to receive your thanks.
P.S. - A shout-out and unquantifiable thanks to (my) KD for introducing me to this show! LY.
